CYNTHIA enters and puts her bag down.
CYNTHIA: Hi.
MOTHER: Hullo, how was your day.
CYNTHIA: Fine.
BECKY: Mummy hurt her face.
CYNTHIA: (goes over to look at her mother's face) What
happened?
MOTHER: I'm okay. Don't worry.
CYNTHIA: Why don't you make him go away?
MOTHER: It's not his fault, we were arguing. He didn't
mean to hurt me, I-
CYNTHIA: (bangs her fist on the table) How can you be so
stupid!?
MOTHER: Look, you don't know him as well as-
CYNTHIA: As well as you? Huh!
MOTHER: What's that supposed to mean?
CYNTHIA: Forget it. Look, I don't even want to know him.
MOTHER: You won't even give him a chance.
CYNTHIA: He doesn't deserve a chance - he...Look what he

MOTHER: I already explained, it's not his fault. He's
been under a lot of stress since he lost his job.
He needs to work, a man like him needs to work.
He's having a hard time of things now and what he
needs is a little support from his family.
CYNTHIA: I'm not part of his family.
MOTHER: Young lady, you're my daughter and he's
now my husband so whether you like it or not you
are part of his family and all I'm asking is for you to
