BECKY: Cyn, wake up. Please wake up. You're scaring me
Cyn, wake up.
(CYNTHIA opens her eyes and sits up and BECKY throws
her arms around her.)
GIRL: It's okay Becky, I'm alright.
BECKY: I thought you'd gone. Please don't leave me, don't
leave me by myself.
CYNTHIA: It's okay, Becky, I won't leave you. I promise.
(Slow fade to black.)
SCENE 3:
A school playground. CYNTHIA sits on a bench eating a
sandwich. Another girl, CHARLENE is sitting next to her and a
short distance away from them is another girl, JO, sitting by
herself.
CHARLENE: (waving a paper in front of the girl's face)
Ninety two percent, eh! My Mum'n'Dad'll be
stoked! What did you get?
CYNTHIA: Not much.
CHARLENE: You didn't fail again did you?
CYNTHIA: (nodding) I got forty three percent.
CHARLENE: What's your Mum gonna say?
CYNTHIA: I don't think she'll say anything. She'll
probably just cry.
CHARLENE: What about your Step father?
CYNTHIA: (pause) What about him?
CHARLENE: You still hate him, huh?
CYNTHIA: I don't want to talk about it.
CHARLENE: Well, what's the matter with you, how come you've
started failing all of a sudden? It used to be
you, me and (indicates towards the girl near them)
Jo fighting it out for the top of the class,
(leans over to Jo) eh, Jo?
JO: Uh-huh.
CHARLENE: So what's happened?
CYNTHIA: Nothing.
