BOY: 'Tis quite a time that you have spent here now -
Time 'nough for me to show you all I know.
You have seen the river and the mountain,
Walked in the forest and on the desert,
Swum in the sea and touched a Unicorn.
All of this we have done and now I wonder
Do you not miss the place from whence you came?
CYNTHIA: I don't want to think about it. This is my home
now. I love that it's always sunny so I never
have to be afraid of the things the night brings.
I can lie down in the shade somewhere and sleep
whenever I want for as long as I want and I love
that you're always by my side when I wake up. I
love the Unicorns and the other animals, the trees
and the grass, the songs of the birds and the
clean, fresh air. There's so much to do and see.
I can do anything or nothing. And I love that I
don't have to go to school anymore. (pause) This
is my paradise. (turns to the BOY) Our paradise.
You're stuck with me for good, buster.
BOY: Nothing is forever.
CYNTHIA: Love is forever and there's more love here than
anywhere else in the Universe.
BOY: Even love dies.
CYNTHIA: Not true love. (pause) Can you play me a tune on
your pipes.
BOY: (laughs)
It seems I will have to teach you to play,
Else you will wear me out before too long.
Why must music always tickle thine ear?
CYNTHIA: Will you teach me to play? Do you think I could
learn ?
BOY: Do you think you could not?
CYNTHIA: Please teach me, let's start now.
BOY: Very well then.
(He takes out his pipes and blows a note, he
demonstrates the action and blows it again,
then gives the pipes to CYNTHIA, showing
her how to
hold them.)
BOY: A good first note to play, so now you try.
(CYNTHIA blows and a not totally dissimilar sound
is heard.
