MOTHER: I don't know, sweety. (to DOCTOR) Is there any
change?
DOCTOR: Well, she seems to have stabilised, so she's out
of any immediate danger.
MOTHER: When will she come out of it?
DOCTOR: It's impossible to tell. Some coma patients
recover consciousness in days, some weeks, months,
years...some never.
MOTHER: Oh, God. My poor little girl.
DOCTOR: We've done all we can. All we can do now is wait.
And keep hoping.
(The DOCTOR exits)
MOTHER: Cynthia, darling, if you can hear me please
listen. I'm so sorry about what I've done to
you. It's all my fault and I only hope that you
can forgive me. I'll try to make it up to you.
(pause) They put him in gaol, honey, he confessed
everything and they put him in gaol. We'll never
see him again, baby, he'll never touch you again.
(breaks down) Please come back to us. I'm sorry,
so very sorry. I love you so much
(Sobbing, BECKY runs around to the opposite side
of the bed, almost knocking over the drip and
alarming the MOTHER.)
MOTHER: Honey, watch out for all the equipment!
BECKY: (takes CYNTHIA's other hand and leans close, tears
running down her face) You have to come back, Cyn,
you promised you wouldn't leave me Cyn, you
promised. You promised me. You promised.
(Fade to blackout.)
SCENE 6:
The grassy hill. CYNTHIA enters, dancing up to the tree and
collapsing in it's shade. The BOY, a little out of breath
follows and collapses beside her.
CYNTHIA: (sitting up) I touched it. It practically came
right up to me. Did you see me, I touched a
Unicorn.
BOY: They are said to have an affinity
For only maidens, pure and virtuous.
CYNTHIA: I love this place. Everything is so beautiful and
pure.
