JO: You can't not.

CYNTHIA: You don't know the whole story. It's complicated.
(pause) Could you please help me test myself.

(The bell rings, signalling the end of lunch)

JO: Sure. (rises)

CYNTHIA: I'll meet you at the back gate after school?

JO: Okay. (starts to leave)

CYNTHIA: Hey Jo.

JO: (turns back) What?

CYNTHIA: Thanks.

JO: (smiles) It's okay.

CYNTHIA: And Jo -

JO: Yeah?

CYNTHIA: I'm sorry for the things I've said and done to
you. I had no idea, I thought you were just being
snobby and superior the way you kept to yourself
and worked so hard and were so serious all the
time. I feel terrible. I'm really sorry.

JO: It's okay.

(Blackout)

SCENE 7:

JO stands near the edge of the stage holding the bits and
pieces of a home pregnancy test kit. She calls out to
CYNTHIA, offstage.

JO: Hurry up, before someone comes.

CYNTHIA: (offstage) I've got it.

(A toilet flushes offstage and CYNTHIA enters with
a full specimen container. JO hands her the
indicator strip.)

JO: Here, now you put this in it and see what colour
it turns. If it's blue you're okay. (She puts the strip in the
container.)

CYNTHIA: What colour's that? It's not turning blue is it?
Oh my God -
