CYNTHIA: (pause, quietly, almost to herself) But it's so
real.
(Fade to blackout.)
SCENE 5:
The grassy hill. CYNTHIA sits under the tree while the BOY
stands downstage, looking into the distance.
BOY: Ere you revealed what prompted your visits
My heart would leap with joy to see your face.
But now my heart and mind are full at war
Like once good friends separated and turned
'Gainst each other by love for the same lady.
Love knows not past or future, only now;
Knows no sense or logic, bends to no law.
How can my heart find joy in seeing thee here
When my mind knows what horrors brought you
hither?
Though I have come to hold you very dear
I wish that I would not see you again.
For that would mean that you are safe and sound
With your folk and in the place that you belong.
I'd know you were happy and unafraid.
CYNTHIA: What about you?
BOY: (turns to her)
I'll always care for you more than myself.
CYNTHIA: Why?
BOY: (smiles)
You're my pretty lady who came to visit.
CYNTHIA: (rises and walks down to where he stands) I don't
want to never see you again. I need you.
(She puts her arms around him and he embraces
her.)
BOY: You need me now, but you will not always.
Situations will change and I will be
Nothing more than a hazy memory
Which you will look back on and think you dreamed.
But I was here, I am and I will be
Here for you whene'er it is you need me.
