STEPFATHER: I really am tired, can we talk about it tomorrow?

MOTHER: Is there someone else? Are you having an affair?
If you're having an affair two months after you
married me-

STEPFATHER: I'm not having an affair.

MOTHER: Promise.

STEPFATHER: I promise.

MOTHER: Then what is it?

STEPFATHER: I already told you. Look, if you want to talk
about it, I'll talk about it but not now, okay?

MOTHER: Fine.

(She switches the light off.
Blackout.)

ACT III:

SCENE 1:

CYNTHIA is in her school uniform sitting opposite the school
COUNSELLOR.

COUNSELLOR: I hope you don't mind missing a bit of maths to
see me, do you?

CYNTHIA: No.

COUNSELLOR: Mr Benson spoke to me about what happened
yesterday. He thought it might be good if we
could have a chat.

CYNTHIA: I just fainted, okay?

COUNSELLOR: It would seem like there's a little more to it
than that. Up until recently you were a straight
A student, at the top of a lot of your classes.
Now your marks have dropped dramatically in all of
your subjects. Why do you think that is?

CYNTHIA: I don't know.

COUNSELLOR: Well, how do you feel about it?

CYNTHIA: I don't know.

COUNSELLOR: Would you like to draw me a picture of how you
feel?
