CYNTHIA: What about it?
MOTHER: That fight we had, when I hit you. You didn't
tell her I hit you, did you?
CYNTHIA: No Mum.
MOTHER: (stops walking, stopping CYNTHIA with her) Listen
honey, I'm really worried about you. I'm going
to take you to the doctor. You've never fainted
before and now that's twice in twenty four hours.
CYNTHIA: I don't want to go to the doctor.
MOTHER: I think it's best to get things checked, just to
be on the safe side. I didn't think I slapped yo
that hard, but maybe some damage was done when yo
fell down.
CYNTHIA: I only got one little lump on my head from that.
I'm okay.
MOTHER: Well, I'll still feel better after the doctor's
had a look at you. I've made an appointment with
Dr Jenning for twelve thirty. I'll explain to
her exactly what happened. She'll understand.
I hope I haven't hurt you. How are you feeling
now.
CYNTHIA: I feel fine. Can't we just go home?
MOTHER: Look, please don't argue with me. I feel bad
about what happened and I just want to make sure
there's nothing serious wrong. I'm really
worried about you. So come on, the appointment's
in fifteen minutes. (Gives her hand a tug and
they start walking again)
CYNTHIA: You worry too much about the wrong things, mum.
(CYNTHIA follows her MOTHER across the stage as
the lights change.)
SCENE 5:
DR JENNING's room. Dr JENNING sits behind her desk while
CYNTHIA and her MOTHER sit opposite in two chairs.
DR JENNING: (Finishing checking CYNTHIA's blood pressure.)
Well, everything's normal so far. If anything
your blood pressure's a little on the high side,
not enough to worry about though. And it's low
blood pressure or lack of blood to the head that
makes you faint. Let's have a look at that
thermometer. (extracts it from CYNTHIA's mouth
and reads it) That's normal too. Do you know
where you hit your head?
