CYNTHIA: (nods) And longer, I spent most of last night here
with you.
BOY: Does this mean your troubles are growing worse?
CYNTHIA: I suppose that's one way of looking at it.
BOY: Be there aught that I can do to help?
CYNTHIA: Do you know anything about high school Maths and
Science?
(The BOY looks at her quizzically.)
CYNTHIA: Didn't think so. It's alright, you always help
me - I think.
BOY: I mean no harm, I only wish to help.
CYNTHIA: I know, and you do. Don't worry about me. I
don't know what I mean, I...Listen, does it ever
get dark here, like do you have a night time?
BOY: 'Tis darker for me when you are not here.
CYNTHIA: But does the sun set and moon rise and the stars
come out and everything? I mean I was here last
night and it was just like it is now, all bright
and sunny - the same as it always is? Is it
always like this?
BOY: As I said: 'tis dark when you are not here.
CYNTHIA: But do you mean...I mean where- (the BOY is
looking confused and a little hurt) Oh, it doesn't
matter. I'm sorry, my mind's running in circles.
I'm so confused. (the BOY opens his mouth to
speak, but she cuts him off) Don't say anything,
just play me some music. (the BOY hesitates,
looking slightly troubled) Please.
(They both sit and the BOY takes up his pipes and
begins to play a melancholy tune. CYNTHIA jabs
him in the ribs with her elbow.)
CYNTHIA: I meant something happy.
(the BOY laughs and puts the pipes to his lips
again and this time a light cheery melody flows
from the instrument.)
CYNTHIA: I feel like dancing.
(She rises and begins to dance. The BOY speeds up
the tempo of his playing and watches CYNTHIA as
she moves in time to the music.
Fade to blackout.)
