(CYNTHIA is swaying slightly and looking faint.)
CYNTHIA: Uh-huh.
MR BENSON: Well, I won't pressure you then, but if things
don't improve do consider talking to the
counsellor. He's a nice guy and he's been a lot
of help to a few of the other kids who've had
problems.
CYNTHIA: (absently) Okay, thanks.
(CYNTHIA starts to leave while MR BENSON stands
thoughtfully for a moment before turning to take
up his notes when CYNTHIA pauses and faints dead
away. As she hits the floor MR BENSON whirls
around.)
MR BENSON: Oh shit.
(He rushes over to her as the lights fade to
blackout.)
SCENE 3:
The grassy hill with the tree. The BOY is nowhere in sight.
CYNTHIA walks up to the tree and looks around.
Suddenly the BOY jumps out from behind the tree holding a
bouquet of flowers. CYNTHIA jumps.
BOY: Boo!
CYNTHIA: (recovering) You dick, you scared me!
BOY: I didn't mean to scare, only surprise.
CYNTHIA: I thought something might have happened to you -
or to me. That's the first time you haven't been
here when I've come.
BOY: Rest easy, I have been here all along;
I sensed that you approached and so I hid.
But not before gathering this bouquet
Of sweet perfumed flowers and blossoms.
Take them, they are for you - a gift from me.
And so, if it please you, I hope you will
Forgive me for my fool's frivolity.
(CYNTHIA accepts the proffered flowers and holds
them to her nose, delighting in the mixture of
scents.)
BOY: Am I forgiven?
CYNTHIA: You're forgiven. Thank you, they're beautiful.
BOY: (pause) Your visits are becoming more frequent.
